Through a succusion of companies joining together which were then nationalised, BOAC and BEA were formed in 1939. These two airlines were then combined in 1974 to create British Airways. After considerable restructuring, British Airways was privatised and floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1987, taking over British Caledonian in 1988 and DanAir in 1992. The airline now has a fleet of around 330 aircraft with most European flights using Airbus A319 - 321 though some flights use Boeing 737.
