EasyJet is a low-cost airline based at London Luton airport.
The airline started operations in November 1995, having been founded by Stelios Haji-loannou, with 2 leased Beoing 737s flying from Luton to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The airlines strategy was to make flying as affordable as possible and encouraged travellers to cut out the travel agent. To this end, EasyJet was amongst the first airlines to offer online ticketless booking.
In 1998 EasyJet bought a 40% stake in TEA Switzerland and renamed it Easyjet Switzerland, then in 2002 EasyJet acquired GoFly, the low cost airline that had been setup by British Airways in 1998 as a rival, greatly increasing the size of the operations.
The originally operated on the principal of using only one type of aircraft that could be used on any route, choosing the Boeing 737, but has more recently replaced many of these with Airbus A319s
Easyjet has won many awards through the years and transported nearly 33 million passengers in 2006.
