19/04/10 UK and Irish Airspace Remains Restricted AMid Speculation of Improvements
NATS, the UK National Air Traffic Service, are currently stating that flight restrictions in UK airspace will remain in place until at least 7pm today, Monday, and the Irish Aviation Authority are stating that Irish airspace will remain closed until at least 1.00pm today.
Eurocontrol are stating that restrictions are in plece in Belgium, parts of Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, parts of France, most of Germany, Hungary, Ireland, northern Italy, the Netherlands, parts of Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and the UK.
Spain, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria, and Turkey appear to be free from the dust cloud at present.
There are speculative reports that restrictions will be eased as a result of test flights that have been carried out showing no damage to the aircraft, although there has also been a report of a meteorological aircraft encountering dangerous levels of ash.
The proximity of the UK and Ireland to Iceland, is likely to result in higher levels of ash in those areas compared to the rest of Europe.
