Slovakia is a largely mountainous country in central Europe with naturally attractive landscapes yet has not been seriously affected by tourism. The abundance of castles give some clues to battles that have been fought in this country.
The mountainous areas are home to many ski resorts and the towns and cities are gradually attracting more tourists.
Slovakia is a member of the European Union and the currency is currently the Slovak Koruna (SKK). 1 SKK = 0.25 Pounds or 0.32 Euros approximatley in 2008.
However, Slovakia is due to use the Euro as it's official currency from 1st January 2009.
Slovakia is also a Schengen country.
