KLM Royal Dutch Airlines made its first flight in 1920, making it the worlds oldest airline still using its original name, and became the national airline of the Netherlands.
In 1989, KLM aquired 20% of NorthWest Airlines, an American airline with a fleet of 600 aircraft, and the two companies formed a close alliance.
In 2003, KLM and Air France Merged, making KLM a subsidiary of Air France KLM. The airline still keeps the KLM name and the alliance with NorthWest.
KLM transported 34.2 million passengers in 2018, a 4% increase from the previous year.
