Turkish Airlines, the national airline of Turkey, was established in 1933 and is now partially privatised.

2004 saw a significant expansion period with 51 new planes being ordered.

In 2012 announced an interest in buying into LOT Polish and TAP Portugal, though neither happened.

The airline has a fleet of over 300 passenger aircraft (approximately half Airbus and half Boeing 737) and carried 62.8 million passengers in 2016, a 2% increase from the previous year.

Turkish Airlines have shown to be one of the fastest growth rates of any European airline, being 6th busiest in 2016, though the airline suffered from the flight restrictions placed on it after the 2016 attempted coup.
