Tired and busy terminal building with very expensive prices in all retail outlets, and also charge for resealable plastic bags, only to find that these are free in the departures area - all a bit of a rip off at all levels. Emphasis is on extracting as much money from you as possible with little or no customer service or satisfaction. Avoid Stansted if possible - cheap and nasty!

In general, a pleasant airport until you meet the staff ! Ryanair seem to dictate exactly how the place should be run and some of the security staff appear to have been recruited from Hell. Travelling can be stressful and by the time you get to the security checks, they know that instead of being polite and helpful, being rude and bullying, they can provoke normally placid and polite people into saying things that result in unpleasant outcomes. I have worked at Stansted in the past and have travelled many times from there but will only do so now if left with no choice.

The biggest drawback is that some of the gates are a very long way from the terminal similar to Gatwick. The choice of shops is OK for a smaller airport. Security seems good and staff are generally helpful.

Not the most attractive airport but has a lot of facilities with staff being friendly and helpful. It is also useful having transport to boarding areas.

Stansted airport wouldn't win any prizes for it's architecture, the check in area makes you feel to be in a large a shed. However the layout of the check-desks is efficient and the departure area is comfortable without being boring. The trains taking you from the departure lounge to the bording gates (which also have plenty of space) are fine.
